The Kansas City Chiefs placed tight end Travis Kelce on injured reserve. Kelce, a rookie taken in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft, recently had a microfracture procedure on his knee, repairing an issue related to a bone bruise sustained in the preseason.

It's a big disappointment for Kansas City, who expected Kelce to contribute significantly as a rookie. Kelce is the second tight end to go down for the season for Kansas CIty, as Tony Moeaki was lost to a shoulder injury in the preseason.
Anthony Fasano, the starter, has played in just two games because of knee and ankle injuries, and likely will not play against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday, either. That leaves Sean McGrath and Kevin Brock as the two tight ends for quarterback Alex Smith. McGrath, to his credit, has caught 15 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown this season.
Kelce will now be targeting a training camp return, if possible. He didn’t get to see the field in the regular season. Safety Bradle McDougald takes Kelce’s spot on the roster, as the team promoted him from the practice squad.
