Freeman may not have to wait much longer for a second chance at starting in the NFL.

The Vikings, who are 1-4 on the season after a brutal 35-10 loss at Mall of America Field to the Carolina Panthers, are searching for answers at a position which has been held by Christian Ponder for three games this year and Matt Cassel for two.
Minnesota signed Freeman just over a week ago to a $3 million deal for one year, signaling its real interest in seeing what he has. Freeman was released after starting three games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season, in which he failed to complete 50 percent of his passes.
Freeman has considerable skills, which made him Tampa Bay’s first round, and 17th overall pick, in 2009. He appeared ready for stardom after a 2010 campaign which saw him throw 25 touchdowns against six interceptions while leading the Buccaneers to a 10-6 record.
Per Pro Football Focus, Freeman comes in 22nd of 36 quarterbacks who qualify in the rankings. Ponder trails him considerably at 27th, and Cassel does not qualify yet.
