Raiders vs. Chiefs 2013: Record-setting crowd ‘was the story’ in win

Kansas City remained unbeaten with a victory over Oakland at Arrowhead.

The Kansas City Chiefs topped the Oakland Raiders in an old-fashioned AFC West showdown, winning 24-7 at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

With the victory, the Chiefs ran their record to 6-0 for only the second time in franchise history, despite only 216 yards of offense. Alex Smith was especially tough to watch at quarterback, completing only 14 of 31 pass attempts.

Still, the defense carried Kansas City as it has all season with another great performance. The unit managed 10 sacks of Terrelle Pryor while picking off three of his passes. Husain Abdullah had the last interception, returning it for a touchdown for the final score of the game.

Over at Arrowhead Pride, Joel Thorman wrote about the 12th man in Kansas City, which set a record on Sunday:

In most games the crowd is only a small part of the story. But on this day, as the KC Chiefs beat the Oakland Raiders, the crowd at Arrowhead was the story. 137.5 decibels, the new Guinness Book of World Records mark for the loudest crowd roar in a stadium. The last mark was set by Seahawks fans at CenturyLink Field.

I'm up in the press box so I'm insulated from a lot of the crowd noise but I can still hear it (and the multiple "Raiders suck" chants). That place was absolutely rockin'. I can't tell you how awesome it was to be there. The energy, the electricity, the entire atmosphere ... it was just perfect.

If anything, this game shows just how difficult it is to do what Pryor has been doing - remaking himself into an NFL quarterback. He spoke last week of how Tim Tebow tried to do the same thing but fell back into his old ways quickly. Pryor kept ahold of his new mechanics over the first five games of the season and improved his pocket presence up to this point. But old habits die hard. Consider this a relapse.
