49ers owner Jed York criticizes fans’ behavior during Calais Campbell’s injury

San Francisco did not look good Sunday while a man was laying injured on the field.

Thearon W. Henderson

San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York is not a fan of some of his own fans.

Arizona Cardinals defensive end Calais Campbell suffered a neck injury on Sunday at Candlestick Park against the 49ers and was on the field for several minutes before being taken off on a stretcher. Some of the 49ers fans were apparently getting bored and began doing the wave, drawing the ire of York.

Over at Niners Nation, David Fucillo ways in on the wave and the usage of it. You can probably imagine his thoughts, but in case you can’t:

I am not a fan of the wave in general, but to do it while somebody is injured is absurd. I’d hope nobody here was involved, but in the future, if you see somebody starting the wave, particularly during this kind of moment, tell them to stop. It’s that simple.

Luckily, Campbell was released from a Bay Area hospital late on Sunday night and is already back in Arizona. His playing status going forward is very unclear at the moment, but he has feeling in all his extremities and has not been ruled out of any games thus far.

Those 49ers fans doing the outdated wave are certainly not the first group to show insensitivity to an injury. In fact, the Houston Texans fans looked bad when a faction of them cheered while Matt Schaub was getting treated for an ankle injury. The cheering stopped when T.J. Yates threw an interception that was returned 98 yards for a touchdown.
