Jake Locker injury: Titans QB unlikely to play against 49ers

The promising youngster is probably going to be relegated to watching Ryan Fitzpatrick once again.

USA TODAY Sports

Quarterback Jake Locker is most likely going to be sitting out against the San Francisco 49ers as he recovers from a hip injury, according to the team's official website.

Locker has been out since getting hit by Muhammad Wilkerson back in Week 4, on a play that sprained his hip and caused him to be taken out immediately. Locker was played very well up until that point, completing 62.2 percent of his passes while tossing six touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Coach Mike Munchak has said the team will not limit Locker in practice but does not expect to have him this week. Munchak also spoke about being cautious, per the article:

“We’re not going to say, ‘Well, geez, if he can stand up, he can play.’ It’s more of he’ll come out like the rest of these guys do, and (we’ll) see if he has setbacks and how he does when he’s throwing, moving around,” Munchak said. “Those are the things he can start doing now, and it’s just a matter of seeing how he does and where we go from there just like we would with Shonn (Greene) and anyone else.”

In Locker's place has stepped Ryan Fitzpatrick. With Fitzpatrick under center, Tennessee has kept games very close against the Kansas City Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks, but ultimately lost both contests. On the year, the Harvard alum only has two touchdowns against four interceptions and a 52.6 completion rate.
