Jerry Jones admits Cowboys DT Jay Ratliff might miss 2013 season

Dallas’ owner says one of his best defensive players might not be on the field this year.

Jim Rogash

Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Jay Ratliff has been out for the first six weeks of the 2013 NFL season, and according to his owner may miss the rest of it, per NFL.com.

Ratliff has been sidelined with hamstring and groin problems, keeping him away from the field. In his absence, the Cowboys are 3-3 and tied for first place in the NFC East along with the Philadelphia Eagles, who they play on the road this weekend.

In the radio interview that Jones discussed Ratliff’s health, the Cowboys owner also made it apparent that should Ratliff not be able to play this year, it is very unlikely he will be back on the team next season, per Clarence Hill.

In 2012, Ratliff only played in six games, recording 16 tackles before shutting it down with a groin issue. Currently, Ratliff is in the third year of a seven-year, $48.6 million contract.
