Roddy White injury: Falcons WR out Sunday with hamstring issue

White will miss a game for the first time in his nine-year career Sunday against the Buccaneers.

For the first time since joining the Atlanta Falcons in 2005, wide receiver Roddy White will not be be suiting up for the team this weekend. A hamstring injury will keep White out of this Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to Jay Adams.

Running back Steven Jackson and left tackle Sam Baker have also been ruled out for Sunday's game.

The four-time Pro Bowler suffered a hamstring injury in Week 5 during a Monday night loss to the Jets, a game in which fellow receiver Julio Jones was lost for the season with a foot injury. The Falcons were on a bye last week but the added rest has not been enough for White, who has also battled a high ankle sprain dating back to the preseason, to recover. He was held out of practice all week.

Fifth-year man Harry Douglas will take over the No. 1 receiver role in White's absence.

Since being drafted by the Falcons in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft, the 31-year-old White has played in 133 consecutive games -- excluding the playoffs -- and started 112 of them. In fact, you have to go all the way back to his freshman year at Alabama-Birmingham in 2001 to find the last time he missed a contest (he played in nine of 11 games for the Blazers that season).

Hampered by the ankle injury, White has failed to show the dominant receiving abilities he’s become known for in recent seasons. Through five games he has just 14 receptions, 129 yards and has yet to find the end zone.

Jackson has not played since suffering a hamstring injury in Week 2 against the Rams. Baker will miss his second consecutive game with a knee injury.
