Doug Martin injury: Buccaneers RB out for season with torn labrum, per report

The Buccaneers season went from bad to worse with the injury to their best offensive weapon.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin is likely out for the season with a torn labrum in his shoulder, according to Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports.

Martin was injured Sunday in Tampa Bay’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons when he fell awkwardly on his shoulder in the end zone. Martin had an MRI on Monday morning which has apparently revealed the worse case scenario for Martin and the Buccaneers, who are still searching for their first win this season under embattled coach Greg Schiano.

The second year running back out of Boise State has been impressive to say the least for Tampa Bay throughout his short career. Martin had racked up 522 yards of total offense this season and last year finished fifth in rushing yards with 1,454, only behind Adrian Peterson, Alfred Morris, Marshawn Lynch and Jamaal Charles.

With Martin now on the shelf for an extended period of time, the Buccaneers will either have to turn for help outside the organization or give the bulk of the carries to Mike James, a rookie and sixth round draft pick out of Miami (FL) University.
