Doug Martin injury: Buccaneers RB leaves after falling on shoulder

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers could be without a key offensive weapon for the remainder of the game and beyond.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin has left Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons with an apparent shoulder injury.

Martin leaped for a jump ball in the end zone before falling on his arm after being struck in the shoulder by Falcons’ safety William Moore. Initially the defender received a penalty on the play, but referees reversed the decision on review. Martin went to the locker room and has been officially listed as “questionable” to return.

If he is unable to return to the game the Buccaneers will turn to Brian Leonard and Mike James to fill the void at running back. This is a big loss for Tampa Bay, as those backs have combined for just four carries and 12 yards in 2013.

Entering Sunday's game Martin has carried the ball 116 times this season, rushing for 409 yards and a touchdown. He hasn't had the same success this year that he had during his rookie season, but remains the heart of Tampa Bay's run-first offense, and was instrumental in taking pressure off rookie quarterback Mike Glennon.
