Case Keenum could remain Texans starting quarterback

The Texans could stick with the young quarterback after Sunday’s game in Kansas City.

Case Keenum is making his NFL debut on Sunday for the Houston Texans, in a game that could turn into an extended look as the starting quarterback according to a report from Jason La Canfora.

Per the report, the Texans are interested in perhaps starting Keenum beyond Sunday's game in Kansas City, even if incumbent starter Matt Schaub is healed enough to play. The undrafted quarterback has the confidence of his team and head coach Gary Kubiak, who apparently would have turned to Keenum over backup T.J. Yates if Schaub had been benched instead of injured.

Texans QB coach Karl Dorrell backs up the assessment that this game could lead to something bigger:

Keenum left the University of Houston with NCAA records in total passing yards and touchdowns, yet went undrafted due to concerns with his size, mobility and arm strength. That said, the young quarterback is purportedly seen as a natural leader in the huddle and makes smart and quick decisions with the ball, a strength he’ll have to rely on Sunday at Arrrowhead Stadium.
