The Houston Texans will be without linebacker Brian Cushing for the remainder of the season. Cushing reportedly tore his LCL and will probably need surgery, according to Albert Breer of NFL.com.

Cushing's injury occurred in the second half of Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs when a blocking player went low, making contact with his left leg and forcing him out for the remainder of the game. Early reports ranged in severity, but the injury now appears more serious than previously thought.

The Texans linebacker entered Week 7 with 44 tackles in six games, and was on pace for 117 tackles -- which would have been the highest since Cushing’s rookie season in 2009. Injuries have plagued him during the last two seasons, and it remains to be seen how quickly he can bounce back from this latest ligament tear.

Houston's season has gone from bad to worse, as the once-promising Texans sit at 2-5 on the season. The defense will now turn to rookie Justin Tuggle, an undrafted free agent out of Kansas State. He has appeared in five games this season, registering five tackles.
