Texans vs. Chiefs 2013 results: Chiefs hold off Texans, 17-16, remain unbeaten
Case Keenum had a valiant effort in his NFL debut, but it wasn’t enough to snap the Texans’ losing streak. The Chiefs won and move to 7-0 on the year.
The Kansas City Chiefs held off the Houston Texans, 17-16, to stay undefeated on the season. The Texans fall to 2-5, losing their fifth straight game.
Case Keenum, making his NFL debut, led the Texans to a field goal on his first drive. The Chiefs struck back with an easy touchdown by Jamaal Charles, capping off an 82-yard drive. Keenum had a big moment in the early going, hitting DeAndre Hopkins for a 29-yard score. Things settled into a defensive struggle, but the Chiefs put a drive together at the end of the first half to retake the lead. Alex Smith capped off a 97-yard drive with a 5-yard run to give the Chiefs a 14-10 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Texans got the ball back on a fumble by Charles. Garrett Graham took a pass from Keenum down to the 1-yard line, but Kansas City made a big goal-line stand and the Texans were forced to settle for a field goal.
The Chiefs entered the fourth quarter with a 17-16 lead and a chance to pad that lead, but Houston denied them with a huge goal-line stand. The Texans defense made another big play thanks to an interception by Shiloh Keo with 5:47 left, but the offense only managed a three-and-out. Houston got one last chance with less than two minutes left, but Keenum made his most fatal mistake of the game. A sack and fumble gave the ball back to the Chiefs, clinching the victory.
Fantasy studs and duds
Jamaal Charles continued his steady production for fantasy owners, recording 123 total yards on 24 touches.
Arian Foster was a non-factor in fantasy leagues, getting just 11 yards on four carries before leaving with a hamstring injury.
Injury report
The Texans suffered multiple hits this week. Arian Foster headed to the locker room with a hamstring injury and was ruled out for the day. Ben Tate was out for a while but came back into the game.
Houston’s biggest loss came on the defense. Linebacker Brian Cushing was carted off the field with an apparent leg injury.
Did they cover?
The Chiefs entered the game as 6.5-point favorites, according to OddsShark. The Texans beat the spread by losing by just one point.
