49ers vs. Titans 2013 results: San Francisco wins easily on the road

The Niners can’t afford any losses as they try to keep pace in the NFC West, and they took care of business with ease in Tennessee.

The 49ers season did not get off to the ideal start, but the defending NFC champions aren't going to fade away without a fight. San Francisco went into Tennessee on Sunday and beat the Titans 31-17 to improve to 5-2 on the year. It was their fourth straight win after a 1-2 start.

Quarterback Colin Kaepernick had an effective game, scoring his first rushing touchdown of the season, while running back Frank Gore scored twice on the ground.

The Titans lost for the third straight game, a tough stretch that also included the Kansas City Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks. Quarterback Jake Locker returned from injury to have a solid effort, but it was not enough against the 49ers. Tennessee falls to 3-4.

Fantasy Studs and Duds

In his return, Locker was effective, throwing for 326 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Kendall Wright had nine catches for 98 yards and Chris Johnson had only 39 rushing yards but added 71 receiving and a touchdown.

Kaepernick threw for 199 yards and rushed for 68 with a score. Gore had his own two touchdowns but Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis were both held under 80 yards without scoring.

Injury Report

49ers safety Donte Whitner left with a knee injury and did not return.

Titans safety Michael Griffin suffered a hip flexor.
