Brian Cushing injury: Texans LB carted off field with leg injury vs. Chiefs

The Texans may have suffered a major blow to their defense on Sunday. He’s out for the game.

Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing was carried off the field during Sunday's Week 7 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs with an apparent leg injury.

Cushing’s left leg bent back awkwardly when he was hit low while attempting to rush the passer. He’s been ruled out for the game.

He was later carted off the field and taken to the locker room.

The 26-year-old Cushing has 12 sacks in five years, but has seen his last two seasons get cut short due to injury. He played in only 11 combined games during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. Speculation has already begun that the injury Cushing suffered against the Chiefs was to the same knee he injured a year ago -- Adam Schefter reported just that moments after Cushing went down.

The Texans can't afford to lose Cushing, but they do have a bit of depth behind him. Whitney Mercilus will be asked to pick up a bit of the slack in Cushing's immediate absence.
