The New England Patriots are ready to sign defensive end Andre Carter, according to Josina Anderson.
Patriots will sign Andre Carter, per report
New England is adding a defensive player to the mix after losing both Vince Wilfork and Jerod Mayo earlier in the year.

New England is desperate to add some playmaking ability on the defensive side of the ball after watching Vince Wilfork and Jerod Mayo get placed on injured reserve in the past month, and Carter could provide it. Carter, 34, has played for four different teams including the Patriots for one season back in 2011.
During that campaign, Carter amassed 10 sacks and 52 tackles in 14 games. In 2007 and 2009, Carter racked up 10.5 and 11 sacks respectively for the Washington Redskins. His best season was in 2002 for the San Francisco 49ers, when he had 12.5 sacks.
The former University of California star last played in 2012 for the Oakland Raiders, appearing in 12 games without starting in any. He ended the year with 2.5 sacks.
