Giants vs. Eagles 2013 picks and predictions: Analysts split on NFC East matchup

The New York Giants won their first game of 2013, while the Eagles proved their offense was vulnerable. As a result pundits are split on who will win in a vital NFC East showdown.

Philadelphia dropped a disappointing game to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 7 when both teams were pegged to be in an offensive shootout. The result of the loss has carried into Sunday's game against a New York Giants' team that finally managed to win on Monday Night Football.

Analysts at ESPN are slightly favoring New York away from home. Four are taking the Giants to win, including Mike Golic who has a season record of 71-36 in picks. Offensive line play has let down Eli Manning in 2013, but he still has a host of weapons at receiver and is facing off against the NFL's 31st-ranked pass defense.

The possibility of Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks having big days is likely why a 1-6 Giants team still has supporters over the 3-4 Eagles. However, there's a strong chance running the football will be the key for Philadelphia, with LeSean McCoy poised to bounce back against a run defense that is allowing 110 yards per game.

Pundits at CBS still believe that Chip Kelly’s offense is potent enough to handle a middling defense. Six of their eight experts are siding with the Eagles.

Ryan Van Bibber of SB Nation is picking the Eagles to win.

This game has the second-highest over/under of any this week at 52 points. Needless to say, most of the action is going on the under because the proposition of the Giants scoring 25 points is just too risky. The Eagles could account for that deficit, and Michael Vick should be at quarterback this week. Either way, you should probably avoid this one all together.

The pick: Eagles

Michael Vick makes his return this week after missing the last two weeks due to injury. The last time these sides met he completed under 50 percent of his passes in a win, but was effective running the ball -- rushing for 79 yards. Consistent quarterback play should result in a Eagles victory, which is hardly a lock given Philadelphia's play at the position.
