In what may go down as one of the most lackluster matchups on the entire season, the Giants were able to defeat the Eagles on the leg of Josh Brown. The veteran kicker booted five field goals on Sunday to outscore Philadelphia in a game between two teams that seem headed for nowhere at this point. The Eagles and Giants defenses were able to stop scores, but both offenses failed to produce scores.

The Eagles lost Michael Vick again to injury, while his replacement, Matt Barkley, put in a dismal effort. The Giants were able to take advantage of the Eagles' lack of scoring and were able to get by with just field goals. The Eagles were able to score first lone touchdown in two games — albeit on the defensive side of the ball — because of one of the worst long snaps in NFL history by Zak DeOssie, which went well over punter Steve Weatherford's head and led to a Najee Goode fumble recovery for a touchdown.

The Giants are not exactly a juggernaut on offense. They still have issues in the red zone, going 0-for-2 there Sunday and settling for five field goals. They also had all sorts of difficulty beating the play clock on several occasions against the Eagles.
The offense, though, has been much more stable the past two weeks. Manning has not thrown an interception in the two victories after throwing 15 in the six losses. Peyton Hillis has given the Giants more than they could have imagined, blocking, catching the ball and churning out key yards. He had 20 carries for 70 yards Sunday, and a handful of nice blocks in pass protection. The presence of John Connor has given the Giants a real fullback. Manning has been sacked just three times in the past three weeks.
Brandon Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation believes this loss sums up the expectations for the Eagles moving forward:
The Eagles were horrible today. The home losing streak continues. Michael Vick didn’t look ready to play. Matt Barkley looked like the 4th round rookie third string quarterback that he is. Chip Kelly made some bad decisions.
The Eagles defense didn’t give up a touchdown, so I guess that’s something. They certainly gave the team a chance to win. The offense, yet again, didn’t hold up their end of the bargain.
The Giants are a really, really bad team. The fact that the Eagles lost to them at home says a lot about the state of the Eagles right now.
In Week 9, the Giants will be on bye but the Eagles will travel to Oakland to face the Raiders.
