The Detroit Lions defense is doing everything it can to make up for the mistakes of their offense, but at a certain point they might be helpless. Calvin Johnson fumbled away the football in the third quarter against the Cowboys on Sunday, the fourth turnover of the game. The Lions defense has held the Cowboys offense to just 134 total yards through three quarters, but Dallas leads 13-7 headed into the final period.

Since 2011, teams are 1-54 in games where they are -4 turnovers or more. The Lions have lost 38 of their last 39 games when turning the ball over at least four times.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford threw two interceptions in the first half, both of which went to linebacker Sean Lee. One of those interceptions bounced off of the hands of Johnson, usually one of the most reliable receivers in the league. Running back Reggie Bush was sloppy holding the ball on a play earlier in the third quarter, turning that one over to Dallas as well.
For the Lions to get ahead, they might need the Cowboys to start making some mistakes on offense. Is Tony Romo capable of that?
