Giants vs. Eagles: Chip Kelly’s offense struggles in back-to-back weeks

The Philadelphia Eagles have been unable to move the ball on offense for two straight weeks.

Chip Kelly will be closely scrutinized this week as the Philadelphia Eagles offense has now come up short in two straight weeks. The Eagles lost, 15-7, in their worst offensive game Sunday, registering just 201 total yards as they handed the New York Giants their second win of the season.

Kelly's two-week total is a far cry from the quick start to the season. The offense has totaled 479 yards and three points, struggling at the quarterback position without Nick Foles and watching as LeSean McCoy's production has evaporated.

The issue with Philadelphia’s offense extends beyond just points and yards. Kelly’s decision-making has also been suspect over the last two weeks. Offensively, the team has completed just 7-of-30 on third down (23 percent), and averaged 3.6 yards per play.

Every phase of the offense is failing. Quarterback switches have caused the passing game to be inconsistent, and the Eagles will hope Foles is able to return quickly. He’s not perfect, but Foles has shown he’s the most capable of running Kelly’s offense and taking care of the football.

Kelly also needs to work out why McCoy is unable to run. The New York Giants are the NFL’s 21st-ranked run defense, allowing 110 yards per game -- but McCoy managed just 48 yards on Sunday.

The NFL’s honeymoon with Kelly’s offense is over. Now it’s on him to show the football world that it can be a long-lasting and successful scheme. That is yet to be seen.
