Jets vs. Bengals: Andy Dalton and Marvin Jones on cusp of historic day

Two unlikely players are on the verge of tying NFL records.

The New York Jets have no answer for Andy Dalton and Marvin Jones, as the Bengals quarterback and receiver could match two NFL records with one quarter left to play in Sunday's game.

Dalton has five touchdowns in the first three quarters. The only thing preventing him from pushing to match the NFL record for passing touchdowns (seven) will be if Cincinnati steps off the gas and starts playing its backup quarterback. The Bengals hold a commanding 49-9 lead, making this a real possibility. It will be interesting to see if head coach Marvin Lewis lets his quarterback chase personal glory, or if he’s happy to walk off the field with an easy win.

If you were to mention to someone that a wide receiver would set a record in this game, the natural reaction would be to assume that A.J. Green would have the big day. Green is one of the league's best young receivers, but it's Marvin Jones who is having an unlikely day. Jones has four touchdown receptions, and needs just one to match Jerry Rice and Kellen Winslow with the NFL record for single-game receiving touchdowns.

A fourth-quarter blowout normally becomes a boring affair, but there are now two key players to watch as the Bengals look to close out this game.
