Robert Griffin III injury: Redskins QB is ‘OK’ after leaving game vs. Broncos

Washington can breathe easy with Griffin reassuring the masses of his health.

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is alright after having to leave the game on Sunday against the Denver Broncos, according to NFL.com.

Griffin, who hurt his knee and exited in the fourth quarter of Washington's 45-21 blowout defeat, was only taken out because of the lopsided nature of the score, explained coach Mike Shanahan after the game. Also post-game, Dr. James Andrews said Griffin would be "ok" despite having to come out early.

Terrance Knighton provided the knockout hit, as seen below:

Kirk Cousins came in to relieve Griffin, but threw two interceptions in mop-up duty.

Griffin was being knocked around throughout the game, sometimes due to bad protection and other times because of his propensity to stand in the pocket until the last possible instant before throwing. All told, Griffin was sacked three times but hit on a bevy of occasions.

The former Heisman Trophy winner is expected to be fine for next week, when the Redskins take on the San Diego Chargers at home in an almost must-win situation at 2-5.
