Jay Cutler injury: Bears QB expected out 3 more weeks

Chicago still has plenty of time before its quarterback returns to the field.

Jonathan Daniel

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler will miss a minimum of three more weeks with his groin injury, according to team's official site.

Cutler was injured in the first half of the Bears' 45-41 loss to the Washington Redskins and did not return to the game. The former Vanderbilt star was originally diagnosed as missing 4-6 weeks, putting him near the target date.

Chicago head coach Marc Trestman is happy with the way Cutler is working his way back from the ailment, per the article:

“I’m encouraged by his sense for how he is improving,” said coach Marc Trestman. “That’s a positive sign. I think we have to stay within the framework that the doctors gave us. I think that is prudent right now, and we’ll see where he is next week.”

Cutler is in the last year of his contract. This season, Cutler has thrown for 1,658 yards, 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Without Cutler, the Bears are leaning on Josh McCown to keep them in the playoff race. Chicago is 4-3 coming off its bye week and is currently in the race for an NFC North crown, one game behind the Green Bay Packers. On Monday night, the Bears and Packers will meet.
