Nick Foles cleared for Eagles, splits reps with Matt Barkley

Philadelphia has options at quarterback going into Oakland.

US PRESSWIRE

Nick Foles and Matt Barkley will split reps at practice on Tuesday for the Philadelphia Eagles, according to Around The League.

Foles has been apparently been cleared to resume football activities after sustaining a concussion in Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys in the third quarter of a 17-3 defeat. With Michael Vick at least out for this upcoming game versus the Oakland Raiders, rookie Matt Barkley has a chance to make his first NFL start.

Once Vick left the game on Sunday with a hamstring injury, Barkley came in but could not get the offense to score a single point. The former USC star completed 17 of 26 passes for 158 yards and threw one interception. He was also sacked three times.

In Foles’ last appearance, he was brutal, completing only 11 of 29 attempts for 80 yards.

Over at Bleeding Green Nation, Brandon Lee Gowton wrote about the situation under center:

This news means that Matt Barkley will likely not be making his first career start on Sunday. It was looking like the rookie would start if Foles and Vick couldn't play. Instead, he will be the backup QB.

Foles first saw major snaps this season when he replaced an injured Vick against the Giants in Week 5. The second year went on to play well vs. the Buccaneers before putting on a terrible performance in Week 7 against the Cowboys.

At 3-5, the Eagles are only one game out of the NFC East lead thanks to the Dallas Cowboys' meltdown against the Detroit Lions last weekend. The good news for Philadelphia is it plays on the road this week, where it is 3-1 this year.
