Michael Vick wants to remain with Eagles for long-term

Michael Vick is in the last year of his contract with the Eagles, but he wants to stay in Philadelphia

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick will be a free agent after the 2013 season. He's not focusing on his future, though, and just wants to focus on winning games and staying with the Eagles as long as possible.

From the Philadelphia Inquirer:

“I think that’s solely up to the direction that this ownership wants to go in,” Vick said to The Inquirer last week. “Obviously, I love Philadelphia. I don’t want anything more than to bring a championship to this city.

“But the most important thing for me is to keep playing consistently, giving this team the best chance to win. It’s hard because . . . I think about my future, I think about me being on a one-year deal. But I don’t know what’s going to happen. I just want to win.”

The Eagles brought Vick back on a one-year, restructured deal in the offseason. He's currently on pace to set a career high in passing yards and a career low in turnovers, but the Eagles are sitting at 1-3. The Inquirer believes that, should Philadelphia loses to the New York Giants on Sunday, head coach Chip Kelly may give second-year quarterback Nick Foles an extended look. If neither he nor rookie Matt Barkley pan out, then Kelly could turn to the 2014 NFL Draft to find a quarterback that better fits his system.

The season is still young, but the Eagles are in a precarious position already. As much as Vick wants to stay, the organization could be ready to look at the future if they don’t feel like they’re going to compete in 2013.
