Calvin Johnson injury: Lions WR hopes to return soon

Megatron is looking to get back on the field in short order.

USA TODAY Sports

Detroit Lions star wide receiver Calvin Johnson is hoping to return quickly from his knee injury, according to mlive.com.

Johnson missed Detroit's contest against the Green Bay Packers over the weekend, a game it lost handily 22-9. Johnson could not get his knee up to speed after hurting it versus the Chicago Bears last week.

After the game, head coach Jim Schwartz did not want to talk about how Johnson’s absence played a large role in the Lions loss at Green Bay, a place they have not won since 1991.

“We certainly gameplanned for his absence,” he said. “We were prepared in any case. Prepared for him to go and do everything, and prepared for him to be limited, and for him not to play. He ended up not playing today. It didn’t take us by surprise.

“He wasn’t one of our 46 today, so you can’t say it affected the offense. He wasn’t one of the guys who was on the field. We had 46 on the field, and those are the guys who affect the offense. After that, he wasn’t one of our 46.”

Johnson missed all practices until Friday, but after warming up at Lambeau Field, he decided he wouldn’t be able to take the field. Johnson, out of Georgia Tech, has been very durable throughout his seven-year career: he has played 16 games three season while suiting up 15 times in two others.
