NFL Injury Report, Week 5: EJ Manuel, Michael Vick, among biggest names

Many big names went down in Week 5, including a trio of quarterbacks and a first round pick.

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Week 5 of the 2013 NFL season brought some great games, but also some unfortunate injuries.

At MetLife Stadium, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick was forced to leave the game in the second quarter with a hamstring injury. It appears Nick Foles could be seeing the starting role for at least one game and possibly more while Vick recovers.

As for the Jacksonville Jaguars, a terrible season continues to get worse. This year's second overall pick, Luke Joeckel, fractured his ankle and will be out for the duration. Joeckel was starting his first game at left tackle after the team had traded Eugene Monroe earlier in the week to the Baltimore Ravens.

Late in the night, San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews left in the second quarter with a concussion and did not return. He will have to go through the NFL's battery of concussion tests to be cleared before playing again. In the same game, Oakland Raiders running back Rashad Jennings left with a bad hamstring according to the Contra Costa Times.

On the defensive side of the ball, Clay Matthews of the Green Bay Packers broke his thumb in a 22-9 win over the Detroit Lions. It is not definite that Matthews will miss any time with the ailment.

During the Thursday night game, Cleveland Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer torn his ACL and is now out for the season. During the same contest, Buffalo Bills signal-caller E.J. Manuel scrambled out of the pocket and sustained a sustained a sprained LCL, putting him on the shelf for 4-8 weeks.

The Browns now turn back to Brandon Weeden while Buffalo will roll with Thad Lewis.
