Atlanta Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez is ready to leave the game after this season, sticking by what he said coming into the campaign, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The former basketball and football star at California knows the sand in his hourglass is running very low, per the piece:
“You can’t keep chasing it,” Gonzalez said. “You can’t. I’ve chased it long enough. I’ve tried and I think I’ve chased it about three or four years longer than I thought I would. This is it.
”I’m going to enjoy it no matter what happens and go play my heart out every week. Hopefully, we’ll turn this thing around.
“I don’t want to be in that position where I’m even thinking about coming back because we are not having a successful season. This is something that I still think we have a very good football team and we can turn this thing around hopefully.”
Gonzalez has had a sure-fire Hall of Fame career, starting with the Kansas City Chiefs and ending with the Atlanta Falcons. In 2012, Gonzalez said repeatedly it would probably be his last season but decided to change his mind after an NFC Championship Game loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Gonzalez is the best tight end of all-time by any statistical measure. A 13-time pro bowler and six-time All-Pro, Gonzalez is the leader at his position with 1,265 receptions and 14,510 yards. Gonzalez's receptions are only second to Jerry Rice, and is only 80 yards behind Marvin Harrison for sixth on the all-time list for receiving yards.
