Geno Smith's sharp play was a big reason for New York's early success. Smith completed 8-of-9 passes to start the game with a pair of touchdowns. The Jets are playing without Santonio Holmes, but his absence hasn't been an issue. Tight end Jeff Cumberland is leading the way with three catches for 79 yards and a touchdown. Jeremy Kerley caught two passes for 37 yards, scoring New York's second touchdown after breaking a tackle in the open field.

The Jets got off to a good start, driving their opening possession deep into Atlanta territory. They lined up to go for a 4th-and-1 attempt, but opted for a field goal instead. New York scored touchdowns on its next two possessions and did so efficiently. It needed just three plays to cover 66 yards for its second touchdown.

Matt Ryan and the Falcons are also off to a very good offensive start. Atlanta had a punt blocked on its opening possession, but drove 80 yards for a touchdown the next time it had the ball. The Falcons advanced deep into New York territory just before the half. New York appeared to force a field goal, but Atlanta went for it on fourth down and the Jets were flagged for pass interference in the end zone. With one second to play in the half, Atlanta gave the ball to Jacquizz Rodgers, but he was stopped short of the goal line.

Ryan completed 16-of-19 passes in the first half for 127 yards and one touchdown. Roddy White, Julio Jones and Tony Gonzalez have been Ryan's primary targets, racking up 14 of 20 targets.

The Jets will receive the second-half kickoff with a chance to increase their lead.
