David Wilson injury: Giants RB will not play vs. Bears

New York Giants running back David Wilson will not play against the Chicago Bears on ‘Thursday Night Football.’

Maddie Meyer

New York Giants running back David Wilson will miss the team's Week 6 matchup against the Chicago Bears, according to Dan Graziano of ESPN. The news was given by head coach Tom Coughlin, who addressed the media on Tuesday.

Wilson left Sunday's 36-21 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles with a neck injury and did not return. Wilson was involved in the first quarter and scored a touchdown run, punctuating it with two acrobatic backflips in celebration. It doesn't seem that those backflips had anything to do with the injury, however.

Following that touchdown he had four carries and a pass go his way, so it’s unclear when he sustained the injury. After the game, Wilson tweeted that he was fine, so it seemed as though he’d be good to go for the team’s Week 6 matchup with the Bears.

The injury is apparently worse than expected if Wilson is being declared out as early as Tuesday. This means he likely will miss practice all this week, as he did on Tuesday. The team plays Chicago in prime time on Thursday Night Football, so the short week would seem to be a factor.

Wilson has 44 carries for 146 yards and a touchdown on the season, and is the team's leading rusher. Brandon Jacobs carried the load in relief of Wilson against Philadelphia, but only managed 37 yards.
