Trent Richardson continues poor form vs. Rams

Richardson’s woes continue in Week 10 against the St. Louis Rams.

The Indianapolis Colts traded for running back Trent Richardson in the hopes he would bring balance to the team's offense and take pressure off Andrew Luck. That hasn't gone to plan and Richardson's struggles are continuing against St. Louis, as he's on pace for his worst game of the season.

Entering the fourth quarter Richardson has five carries for two yards, with a long run of five yards -- this means that multiple attempts have ended behind the line of scrimmage and the team has managed just 10 rushing yards on as many attempts.

This isn’t the case of a running back learning the offense or struggling in a new scheme, but rather a continuation of a downward spiral that began when he was drafted. Entering Sunday’s game Richardson had a total of 248 rushing yards in six games, running at an inefficient 3.0 yards per carry.

It’s clear the Colts need more balance in their offense, but it’s hard to see where. This is a talented team with a franchise quarterback, but very little support for him on the offensive line or run game. General manager Ryan Grigson surrendered a first-round pick for Richardson and it appears his struggles weren’t merely a product of being in Cleveland.
