Peyton Manning outclassing Philip Rivers as Broncos lead Chargers at half

These two quarterbacks are among the best in the league this season, but only one looks like the best on this Sunday.

Peyton Manning and Philip Rivers entered their Week 10 matchup as two of the top quarterbacks on the leaderboards this season, but after the first half one of them looks like a Hall of Fame legend and the other one is Philip Rivers. Not only do the Denver Broncos lead the San Diego Chargers by a score of 21-6, but Manning is crushing Rivers in every important statistic you can think of.

Manning is 17-of-22 for 243 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions through two quarters. That gives Manning 32 touchdowns in eight-and-a-half games this year already. For Rivers, he only has one season in his entire career with more than 32 touchdowns, when he threw 34 of them in 2008.

He’s not closing in on topping that career mark against the Broncos on Sunday.

Rivers is 7-of-12 for 91 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions. He came into Sunday with 2,473 yards, 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions under first-year head coach and offensive guru Mike McCoy. Through nine weeks, Rivers leads the NFL with a 72.2 percent completion rate, but he’s had no success against Denver’s secondary, which is somewhat surprising since the Broncos are 25th in the NFL in points allowed.

There is still a whole half to go, but for Rivers to catch up to Manning, he’s got a long way to go. And that’s only if Manning slows down.

Not likely.
