Brad Smith will sign with Eagles, per report

Philadelphia has picked up another option on offense and special teams.

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles are going to sign free agent wide receiver Brad Smith, according to Jason La Confora. The Eagles waived wide receiver B.J. Cunningham in a corresponding roster move.

Smith had been with the Buffalo Bills this season before being released last week. Smith was obviously not in the Bills' long-term plans after the team drafted both Marquise Goodwin and Robert Woods this year under new head coach Doug Marrone. Buffalo had signed Smith to a four-year deal back in 2011 to pry him away from the New York Jets.

On Philadelphia, Smith will provide some depth behind the likes of DeSean Jackson, Riley Cooper and Jason Avant. Last season, the 29-year-old Smith only has 14 catches for 152 yards and a pair of touchdowns, playing in 15 games for Buffalo. This year, Smith is yet to suit up after suffering a rib injury against the Detroit Lions in the preseason.

Smith has never had a huge impact in the passing game. In seven seasons, Smith is yet to eclipse 350 receiving yards in a season. However, he has great speed and could be a factor in the return game if need be. He has four kickoff returns for touchdowns in his career.
