Gary Kubiak expected to coach on Sunday, per report

After one game away, Gary Kubiak will return to the sidelines on Sunday, less than two weeks after suffering a mini-stroke.

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak is expected to coach on Sunday against the Raiders, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Kubiak missed last week's game after suffering a mini-stroke two weeks ago.

Kubiak collapsed on the sidelines during Houston’s Week 9 game on his way into the locker room at halftime. He was transported to a local hospital, where he underwent treatment similar to what is given to stroke sufferers. Kubiak was said to have suffered a transient ischemic attack (TIA). He was released from the hospital later in the week, but did not return to the team immediately. Defensive coordinator Wade Phillips served as the interim coach with Kubiak rejoining the team on Monday.

He worked a half day on Monday and is reportedly slowly increasing his workload during the week, leading up to Sunday’s game against Oakland. Tim of Battle Red Blog wrote Kubiak’s return would be a welcome sight at Reliant Stadium:

Regardless of how you feel about the ongoing horror that is the Texans’ 2013 campaign, it’ll be great to see Kubes back on the sidelines on Sunday. I have no doubt the crowd at Reliant Stadium will give him a warm welcome back.
