Colts vs. Titans 2013: Another Indy comeback, another Tennessee meltdown

The Colts, yet again, overcame a slow start to cap off an exciting rally. The Titans, yet again, watched a lead slip away.

Thursday night's game between the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans was one of an inspirational comeback or a squandered opportunity, depending on which shade of blue you were wearing. For the Colts, it marked yet another come-from-behind victory, as they battled back from a 14-point deficit to win 30-27 and improve to 7-3. Titans fans, however, are bemoaning the 20 unanswered points they allowed during the second and third quarters as they watched yet another winnable game slip through their grasp.

The Colts have made a living off digging themselves out of early deficits this season. They have been outscored 35-0 in the first quarter over the past three games -- two of which they won -- and have trailed after the opening 15 minutes in six of their 10 contests.

Josh Wilson at SB Nation's Colts' blog, Stampede Blue, appreciates the team's ability to come from behind, but writes that the trend can't continue if they hope to make a playoff run.

The slow starts are still a MAJOR concern. In the past three games combined, the Colts have been outscored 66-9 in the first half. Going 2-1 with those types of starts is really incredible, honestly. But that can’t continue, and the Colts absolutely must start faster.

For the Titans, however, the game is just another blown opportunity in a season full of almosts. Had they held on for the win, they would be sitting just a game behind Indy in the AFC South standings and in good shape for a wild card spot even if they couldn’t catch the Colts. Instead, the loss drops them to 4-6 and has their playoff chances looking like a long shot.

Just as comebacks have become a trend for the Colts, letdowns have become a frequent sight for Tennessee. Of their six losses, they have held halftime leads in three of them, and Thursday night’s meltdown prompted Titans blog Music City Miracles to exclaim “no lead is safe with us.” Unless the coaching staff can orchestrate a turnaround similar to those they’ve consistently been on the other end of, the blog writes, they could be on the way out the door at season’s end.

We keep finding ways to lose. It’s amazing. If anyone has a legitimate reason why [head coach Mike Munchak] and the rest of this staff should be retained, I’d be happy to hear it. But they just aren’t getting the job done. Period.

...I want a clean slate with this organization, in the coaching ranks.
