Delanie Walker calls Erik Walden head butt ‘bush league’

Delanie Walker fired back at Erik Walden for the linebacker’s head butt during Thursday night’s game between the Colts and the Titans. Will Walden face additional punishment from the league?

Indianapolis Colts linebacker Erik Walden arguably should have been ejected after ripping off the helmet of Delanie Walker and head butting the Tennessee Titans tight end, helmet to cranium, during Thursday night's game. Judge for yourself:

Walker thinks Walden should have been thrown out, and made his opinion clear after the game. He went on the offensive after the Colts’ comeback win, telling the Nashville Tennessean that he thought the head butt was “bush league.”

“What got him riled up? I was whupping his butt, that’s what happened, and the cat couldn’t take it when he was getting whupped,” Walker said. “He got frustrated, and he should have been ejected for what he did. That’s bush league and that’s the type of stuff we don’t need in this league.”

Walker had a career night, with 10 receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown. At the time of the incident, which drew a personal foul on Walden, the Colts were reeling. The flag was part of a string of three-straight personal fouls on the Colts while the Titans were driving to extend a 14-3 lead in the second quarter.

Walden’s head butt is almost certain to receive additional scrutiny and punishment from the NFL. A fine is likely, with a suspension possible if the league deems the move egregious enough.

Per ESPN, Walden was remorseful after the game.

It was a selfish act,” Walden said. “It could have cost my team bigger than I did. I lost my composure. It something that can’t happen. It wasn’t really something he did, it was ticky-tack. I can’t allow myself to take it that far.”
