Bears vs. Ravens weather update: Contingency plans in place as severe weather approaches

The Bears are preparing for a potentially dangerous storm making its way across Illinois.

The Illinois area is experiencing a severe storm on Sunday, making things potentially complicated in Chicago when the Bears play the Baltimore Ravens. The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for the Chicago area. Tornado touchdowns have already been confirmed in central Illinois.

Currently, the storm is on track to pass about 15 miles south of Soldier Field. The NFL is making contingency plans in the event that the storm hits the stadium, including plans to evacuate fans to a museum across the street. Weather experts will closely track the storm throughout the game.

Two NFL games have had weather delays this season. The season opener in Denver and a Week 2 game in Seattle were both delayed about an hour due to lightning strikes in the area. The situation in Illinois is far more dangerous, with tornadoes and heavy hail pounding the region.

Chicago isn’t the only region dealing with heavy weather Sunday. Buffalo is experiencing 65 MPH winds and things will be almost as gusty in Cincinnati. We will provide more updates on the weather if things change.
