The New York Jets pulled quarterback Geno Smith in the second half Sunday against the Buffalo Bills after multiple turnovers in an almost-assured loss.
Jets’ Geno Smith benched vs. Bills
The team’s struggling rookie quarterback has been pulled in the fourth quarter.

Smith threw three interceptions and fumbled the ball once, posting a passer rating of 10.1. The turnovers were bad enough, but he showed an inability to throw against a flawed Buffalo secondary, completing 35 percent of his passes. However, it wasn’t entirely the rookie quarterback’s fault, with the Jets’ pass protection being woeful and allowing him to be sacked four times.
The team turned to Matt Simms to close out the game. He has responded quickly, completing his first three passes and a throwing a 13-yard touchdown pass to Jeff Cumberland.
It remains to be seen whether the Jets make a switch on a more permanent basis. The team is pushing for a wild card spot, and Smith remains a major liability with 16 interceptions and eight touchdowns this season.
