Chiefs vs. Broncos 2013 results: Peyton Manning leads Denver to 27-17 win

The Game of the Week was never really in doubt for the Denver Broncos.

For weeks, the Sunday Night Football showdown between the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs was circled on the NFL schedule. By the end of the night, Peyton Manning and the Broncos had come away with a convincing 27-17 victory, ended the Chiefs' undefeated season and moved into first place in the AFC West.

The Broncos got on the board quickly and didn't look back. Manning and company took a 10-0 lead in the first quarter with a touchdown pass from Manning to Julius Thomas. The Chiefs fought back with a touchdown of their own, a pass from Alex Smith to Dwayne Bowe. A second-quarter touchdown from Montee Ball extended to lead to 17-10, and the Broncos extended it from there.

Offensively, Kansas City was stagnant for most of the game. Nothing was happening for the Chiefs offense, especially in the second half. The Chiefs’ defense has been an asset for the team all season long, but it was tough for the pass rush to make an impact with Manning getting rid of the ball so quickly.

The win pushed both teams to 9-1, giving the Broncos the tiebreaker for the division lead.

Fantasy studs and duds

Rookie running back Montee Ball finally started to live up to the lofty preseason fantasy football hype he generated. Ball ran for 22 yards, but also scored two touchdown, helping his fantasy owners. Other than Ball, not too many players in this game had huge performances for fantasy football owners.

Injury report

Denver Broncos tight end Julius Thomas left the game briefly with a knee injury, but was able to return. Wes Welker also left the game late and was being evaluated for a possible concussion. Chiefs offensive tackle Eric Fisher left the game late with a shoulder injury.

Did they cover?

The Broncos were favored by eight points, according to Odds Shark. They covered the spread.
