Rumors began amid reports Roethlisberger was unhappy with the playcalling of offensive coordinator Todd Haley. That, paired with the quarterback’s salary cap figure, which is set to increase to almost $18-million in 2014. He is willing to restructure his deal, if need be:
“Obviously I will do whatever I need to do,” Roethlisberger said. “That’s something that can be discussed when the time comes. It’s not really my thing. I play football. I have people to deal with all that stuff. I will do whatever it takes to stay here and be a part of this team and help this team win.”
The Steelers have struggled to a 4-6 record this season, but it’s not due to the team’s quarterback play. Roethlisberger has been steady as ever, on pace for one of his best seasons throwing for over 2,900 yards, 17 touchdowns and a passer rating of 91.3.
Pittsburgh is trying to put together an unexpected playoff run following a 0-4 start. The Steelers currently sit in second place in the AFC North, with an opportunity to catch the Bengals, who lead the division at 7-4.
