NFL suspends official for swearing at Trent Williams

Umpire Roy Ellison will sit out Week 12 after he was suspended for one game for comments directed at Redskins OT Trent Williams.

The umpire accused of directing profane comments at Washington Redskins offensive tackle Trent Williams during a Week 11 game has been suspended for one week without pay, the league announced on Friday.

The NFLRA is challenging the suspension.

Williams accused Roy Ellison of lobbing insults in his direction during the game against the Philadelphia Eagles, calling the Pro Bowl lineman a "garbage a*** disrespectful motherf*****." It is not the first time that Ellison has received accusations of swearing at players, as former Vice President of Officiating Mike Pereira said that previous claims had been investigated, but had insufficient proof.

On Thursday, former-Redskins offensive lineman and chairman of the Fritz Pollard Association, John Wooten, claims Ellison was provoked by comments made by Williams. According to Wooten, Williams should have been the subject of a personal foul penalty after directing a racial slur at Ellison, although Williams denies the claim.

Ellison will reportedly be eligible to return to the field in Week 13.
