Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte hyper-extended his knee in the team's loss to the St. Louis Rams. Head coach Marc Trestman is optimistic about his status, despite the injury.

Forte was successful against St. Louis outside of a fumble. He totaled 117 all-purpose yards and averaged over 5.0 yards per touch but the team was disappointing offensively. The Bears are waiting for the return of quarterback Jay Cutler, and can't bear to lose another offensive veteran.

This season Forte has amassed a total of 851 rushing yards, adding over 400 yards receiving. He has also scored eight total touchdowns, second only to wide receiver Brandon Marshall. If Forte is forced to miss time the team will turn to backup running back Michael Bush. He has been largely unused in 2013, carrying the ball 42 times for a total of 69 yards.

Chicago is trying to stay in step with Detroit and Green Bay in the NFC North. The Bears currently hold second place in the division, and face a vital must-win matchup against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 13.
