Nick Foles on verge of historic day vs. Raiders

Nick Foles is on the verge of history with seven touchdown passes.

Nick Foles isn’t just having a great game by Philadelphia Eagles standards, he’s having one of the best games by a quarterback ever. With just over one quarter remaining, Foles has thrown seven touchdowns, and needs one more to break the NFL’s single-game record.

The Philadelphia Eagles came under fire as their offense faltered and the team's early-season success evaporated. Initially it felt too simple to hang the team's woes on missing Nick Foles, but it's now clear the second-year quarterback is just what this offense needs.

Foles has completed 21-of-26 passes for 400 yards and seven touchdowns. Not only has he been the best quarterback in Sunday's game, but Foles has been the best quarterback of the entire NFL weekend so far and is on pace for the best game of all time. The Oakland Raiders defenders are no slouches, but the team has no answer for a reliable pocket passer who's picking apart its secondary.

Riley Cooper and DeSean Jackson are both thriving. Each receiver has over 100 receiving yards and Cooper has caught three touchdown passes. This is the first time Chip Kelly's offense has succeeded without adequate run support from LeSean McCoy, who is struggling against a stout Raiders run defense.

Just over two minutes remain in the third quarter and the Eagles currently lead, 49-13.

Update: Foles was pulled for Matt Barkley in the fourth quarter. He finished the day 22-of-28 for 406 yards, seven touchdowns and no interceptions.
