C.J. Spiller injury: Bills RB feels he’s returning to form

A season of injury looks to finally be improving for C.J. Spiller.

Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller has been hobbled by a high-ankle sprain this season, but is finally close to feeling like he's back to his old self. He told reporters Thursday that he hasn't had any setbacks from his ankle, despite coming off a 12-carry game, his most since week four.

Spiller was believed to build off a 2012 season where he was one of the league’s top running backs. He finished with 1,244 yards and six touchdowns, running at an efficient rate of 6.0 yards per carry. This breakout year was unable to carry over this year, as the high ankle sprain limited his ability to cut and resulted in 478 yards in eight games this year.

Keepers Week 10

Matt Ufford offers you fantasy advice on Aaron Rodgers, finding a sub for Jamaal Charles and more.

Running for a season-high 116 yards against the Kansas City Chiefs was the first step, more enouraging for Spiller was how his body responded following the game.

“Just little twinges here and there,” Spiller said. “The good thing is that it calms down a whole lot quicker than what it had done in the past. That’s the encouraging part. But for the most part, I thought Sunday was a great day. Still not where I wanted to be, so we’ll just continue to do the things that we need to do.”

The 2013 season may be lost for Buffalo following a series of injuries at quarterback, but having a full-strength Spiller is the key to turning about the Bills’ offensive fortunes in the future.
