Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY SportsMost importantly, Manuel’s ability to play allows first-year head coach Doug Marrone more opportunities to evaluate his young quarterback and get him regular season reps, which will put the team in good stead for 2014 and beyond.

David Butler II-USA TODAY SportsUpdate: Ben Roethlisberger’s agent Ryan Tollner released a statement refuting Ian Rapoprt’s report via “Rep 1 Sports” Twitter account:
Roethlisberger reportedly continues to have issues with offensive coordinator Todd Haley, but the problems go deeper than that, coming a year after the Steelers reportedly explored trade options after the 2012 season. The Steelers went 7-9 in 2012 and missed the postseason, losing five of their last seven games, and now are 2-6 in the middle of another wholly disappointing year.

Tom SzczerbowskiThe Steelers are now 2-6 and their divisional title hopes are all but dead. It’s fair to wonder if the coaching staff will see any shakeup after missing the playoffs two years in a row.
Manuel is still a raw talent, but he’s the best option the Bills offense has. Poor quarterback play has squandered an excellent effort by the defense, leading to a 3-6 record.

Jason Bridge-USA TODAY SportsBy their own standards, for a team that hasn’t posted a winning season since 2004, the Bills are probably happy with how things have gone thus far. Despite being 3-6, Buffalo wasn’t going into the season with much hope for a playoff berth and even with their rookie quarterback injured for nearly half the year, they’ve hung around with some of the games best.
So if Buffalo can beat Carolina, can they go into Pittsburgh and do the same to Pittsburgh? Most experts still seem to favor the Steelers, but it’s closer than you might have expected going into the year when this game was on the schedule.

Tom SzczerbowskiSpiller was believed to build off a 2012 season where he was one of the league’s top running backs. He finished with 1,244 yards and six touchdowns, running at an efficient rate of 6.0 yards per carry. This breakout year was unable to carry over this year, as the high ankle sprain limited his ability to cut and resulted in 478 yards in eight games this year.
The 2013 season may be lost for Buffalo following a series of injuries at quarterback, but having a full-strength Spiller is the key to turning about the Bills’ offensive fortunes in the future.
