Christian Ponder injury: Vikings QB suffers dislocated shoulder vs. Redskins

Christian Ponder suffered a dislocated shoulder against the Redskins after playing well for most of three quarters. Now the Vikings may be shuffling quarterbacks again.

Christian Ponder suffered a dislocated shoulder for the Minnesota Vikings during Thursday night's win over the Washington Redskins, head coach Leslie Frazier confirmed after the game. Ponder left the game late in the third quarter after taking a hard hit on his left (non-throwing) shoulder while diving for the left pylon of the end zone. He went to the locker room after being checked by training staff and did not return.

Frazier said that there is no timetable yet for Ponder’s return, though the quarterback seems to think he will be back on the field sooner than later. Per Pro Football Talk:

“My expectation is to be back next week,” Ponder said. “We have a great training staff.”

Ponder played well before being forced to the sideline. He rallied after throwing an interception on his second pass of the game to complete nine-straight passes. Ponder finished the game 17-for-21 for 174 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Ponder entered the game as the Vikings starter, though reports beforehand indicated that his grasp on the role was tenuous. Matt Cassel played well in place of Ponder on Thursday, going 4-for-6 for 47 yards. He appears to be the Vikings' starter going forward if Ponder is forced to sit. Josh Freeman also might be thrust into action.
