Josh McCown played about as well as he possibly could have for the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football, racking up 348 yards passing and four touchdowns, but it wasn't enough to supplant Jay Cutler as the team's starter, according to ESPN.
Jay Cutler still Bears starting QB, according to Marc Trestman
Chicago has a legitimate quarterback controversy in the minds of many fans and pundits, but not the head coach.

Head coach Marc Trestman is happy with McCown's performance, but maintains that Cutler will re-assume the starting role once his ankle sprain heals enough for him to play. Cutler has been out of the lineup since Nov. 10 when he was injured against the Detroit Lions. Per the piece:
“There’s no change in the plan,” Trestman said. “We’ll see where Jay is this week. He’ll have to be released by the doctors. When Jay is ready to play, he’ll be playing.”
McCown has come in and at 34 years old, become one of the feelgood stories of the NFL season. The career backup has thrown for 1,809 yards on the campaign along with 13 touchdowns and only one interception.
Cutler is a free agent after this season, making matters even more complicated. While McCown is not the long-term answer due to his age, do the Bears see Cutler as expendable? The team could use the franchise tag to retain Cutler, which would cost around $16 million.
