Calvin Johnson will show what ‘old man’s strength’ is to Matt Elam

The Ravens safety made some surprisingly bold comments about Detroit’s star receiver, and Johnson was quick to respond on Thursday.

Baltimore Ravens safety Matt Elam told reporters earlier in the week that Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson was "pretty old." Johnson responded to the comment during a conference call on Thursday, saying that the Ravens' safeties were "nothing extraordinary" and that he would show Elam "what that old man's strength [is] about," according to ESPN's Jamison Hensley.

Johnson did agree with the statement, saying “I’m getting old,” but also said that Elam was “kind of young” and that he wouldn’t have to see him on the field unless Johnson was running past him. The Lions and Ravens meet on Monday Night Football, with both teams likely unable to afford a loss as they fight for playoff spots in their respective conferences.

Elam, 22, is a rookie drafted in the first round out of the University of Florida. He has made 50 tackles and two pass deflections this season for Baltimore.

Johnson, 28, is second in the NFL with 1,348 receiving yards and has 12 touchdown catches. He has 4,993 yards since the start of the 2011 season and just recently became the franchise’s all-time leading receiver.
