The Kansas City Chiefs are currently determining whether wide receiver and punt return specialist Dexter McCluster could have MRSA, according to a report from Randy Covitz of the Kansas City Star.

MRSA, or Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, is a serious bacterial infection that is resistant to most medicinal treatments and is notably very difficult to treat and is becoming more prevalent outside of the hospital environment.
McCluster is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders because of an infection in a cut on his ankle that required IV and antibiotic treatment because of swelling and tenderness. With three players from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers diagnosed with MRSA at one point or another season -- and incidents of the infection on the rise in locker rooms across the country -- there is a notable concern that McCluster could have the same infection.
“I know the big question is, ‘Does he have MRSA?’ but we don’t know that because we don’t have all the cultures back,” said Chiefs head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder.
McCluster has 438 yards receiving and one touchdown this season and has 631 return yards and two touchdowns and had a club-record 177 yards on punt returns against the Redskins last week.
