Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has been named the 2013 Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year. The award was announced by NFL writer Peter King during halftime of Sunday Night Football on NBC.

Manning is on pace for the best season by a quarterback in NFL history. He has already thrown for a career-high 4,811 passing yards with two games remaining, while throwing 47 touchdowns. Tom Brady of the New England Patriots holds the NFL touchdown record with 50, thrown in 2007.

They're on pace not only to make the playoffs, but hold home field advantage -- assuming the Broncos can win their two remaining games. Manning is looking to win the second Super Bowl of his career.
This is the first time Manning has won Sportsman of the Year honors, and the third time in 10 years an NFL player has won the award. He joins Tom Brady (2005), Brett Favre (2007) and Drew Brees (2010).
