Victor Cruz injury: Concussion could keep Giants WR out for rest of season

A concussion and sprained knee could keep the star receiver stalled just short of another 1,000 yard season.

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY

New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz was just two yards short of his third consecutive 1,000-yard season when he was knocked out of a game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. It's possible his season total will remain stalled at 998 receiving yards, as the New York Daily News is reporting he could miss the final two games of the season with a concussion and sprained knee.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin expressed uncertainty when asked whether his star receiver -- who was injured while attempting to haul in a tough catch in the ugly 23-0 loss -- would suit up again in 2013.

“I don’t know,” Coughlin said. “I haven’t looked at that play, but the kid went up and made a heck of an effort and came down on the side of his helmet ... But anyway, I haven’t had a chance to visit in there. I know he came down on the side of his head, so we’ll see.”

Cruz suffered the injury with just over two minutes to play in the third quarter when he went high to grab a pass over Seattle’s Jeremy Lane. He crashed to the turf hard, landing on his head and shoulder and laid motionless for several moments. As he was helped off the field, a video review detremined he had not made the catch, taking away what would have been a 16-yard reception and a 1,000-yard season.
